Review: Burger King - Rodeo Sandwiches

Burger King's Rodeo Sandwiches come with either a burger or breaded chicken patty plus three onion rings and barbecue sauce on a toasted sesame bun.

I bought one of each for $1 a piece.

The Rodeo Burger is most familiar as the chain used to offer a Rodeo Cheeseburger a few years ago and the hamburger version doesn't suffer any from the lack of cheese owing to the fact that barbecue and cheese is not exactly a tried and true combination.

With just a few ingredients, each is readily apparent. There was a nice bit of char to the beef patty but Burger King has some of the narrowest junior beef patties in all of fast food. They have a decent thickness but there's always a rim of bun that's left beefless. I swear they used to be bigger back in the day. They should either make the patties wider and flatter or just start using smaller buns (or bigger patties but I'm trying to be more realistic here).

The beef and char works really well with the barbecue sauce, which is mostly sweet with some smoky tang and just a slight kick. I think they still use Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet 'n Spicy BBQ Sauce, but it's not longer listed on their website so I can't be sure. If it's not, it's something that tastes very similar and I like it.

The onion rings add a nice crispiness to the burger as well as a pretty strong onion flavor. The coverage was pretty good and I got a little in every bite.

The Rodeo Crispy Chicken's breaded chicken patty was thin but crispy. It was wider than the burger patty and pretty much filled the bun.

That being said, I felt like I was eating an over-sized chicken nugget with barbecue sauce and found myself wondering why I needed the bun. Also, the breading from the onion ring and the patty sport the same texture, which made for a pretty crispy burger.

Overall, I enjoyed the Rodeo Burger quite a bit and more so than the Rodeo Crispy Chicken. The combination of beef, onions, and barbecue sauce are solid and I found the burger to be well balanced. The chicken version doesn't work quite as well but isn't bad either.
