Review: Del Taco - Turkey Taco

Del Taco's Turkey Taco features seasoned ground turkey, lettuce, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo in a crunchy taco shell (it's also available in a soft flour tortilla but I prefer the hard shell).

The Turkey Taco costs $1.29 each (30 cents more than the similarly proportioned Double Beef Classic Taco), but I received this one courtesy of Del Taco.

The selling point here is "all the flavor. 33% less fat" over Del Taco's seasoned ground beef and to see how true this was, I also got a regular ground beef taco for comparison.

Here's how the meats look side by side (turkey on the right):

You can see the turkey is a lighter shade of brown compared to the beef. Other than that the ground turkey has much the same texture and flavor. It seemed just a tad more seasoned to me and, of course, there's the underlying turkey flavor rather than beef.

Ground beef on the left, turkey on the right.
The lettuce and cheese are pretty classic; the cheese was moist and the lettuce crispy. The pico de gallo adds a bit of tang and a hint of cilantro.

Overall, Del Taco's Turkey Taco is pretty tasty with a good mix of meat, veggies, and crunch. It's ideal for those who enjoy the taste of Del Taco's taco but want to cut back on the calories and fat.
