Review: Carl's Jr. - X-Tra Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit

Carl's Jr.'s X-Tra Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit is their standard Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit sandwich but with twice the amount of bacon (four strips instead of two). The "X-Tra" is part of a tie-in with the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past movie.

My local Carl's Jr. sells them for $2.89, but I received this one courtesy of Carl's Jr.

Coincidentally (or possibly by design), the bacon in my particular breakfast sandwich happened to be crossed into an "X."

Unsurprisingly, the extra strips of added an extra hit of salt and bacony flavor but also highlighted the mediocre flavor of Carl's Jr. bacon. It's mostly salty and lacks that cured smokiness I was looking for. It works fine as an accent on their hamburgers but isn't up to snuff as the lead actor as it is in this sandwich. Texture-wise, it was a mix of soft and crispy portions.

The rest of the sandwich was pretty nice. I particularly liked the folded egg, which is a good bit fluffier than what's standard at some of Carl's Jr.'s competitors. The cheese was melted and fairly mild, while the biscuit sported a nice crust and soft crumb.

Overall, Carl's Jr. X-Tra Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit was just okay for me. They need to source some more flavorful bacon or add a sauce to the sandwich.
