Review: Domino's - Sweet BBQ Bacon Specialty Chicken

Domino's Sweet BBQ Bacon Specialty Chicken features about 12 chunks of breaded chicken breast glued together with a melted blend of cheeses made from mozzarella and cheddar and topped with BBQ sauce and diced bacon. It's basically Domino's attempt at making a chicken crust pizza.

I picked up an order for $5.99.

While it might be an attempt at chicken crust pizza, don't expect to be able to pick it up as a slice. It's just melted cheese holding the pieces together.

The chicken was a little dry and not crispy at all, which kinda defeats the whole point of breading them. I would have rather had their grilled chicken strips arranged in a similar manner (it might be an option to consider adding).

The sauce was pretty standard with the requisite smoky and sweet notes and just a bit of a tomato-y tang. It played it safe and never veered off in any odd direction.

I'm a big fan of Domino's bacon for its crispiness and smoky flavor out of the oven, but it was decidedly muted against the BBQ sauce, probably due to the similar smokiness. They didn't skimp on the bacon though.

The cheese held everything together and not much else. It provided a plain creaminess, which feels at home with tomato sauce on a pizza, but doesn't do much here. Maybe they should try a chicken parmesan version of Specialty Chicken.

Overall, I can't shake the feeling of Domino's Sweet BBQ Bacon Specialty Chicken as pre-dipped and subpar chicken nuggets. The BBQ and bacon combination felt less than the sum of its parts, and combined with the breaded chicken pieces, was a bit too many salty ingredients without anything to serve as a buffer. I think onions might fit in well.

It's a little bit pricey but is the same price as wings or boneless chicken at Domino's.
