Review: McDonald's - Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce

McDonald's Savory Chili WcDonald's Sauce is a sauce inspired by the chain's anime-inspired counterpart (WcDonald's). The sauce features a combination of ginger, garlic, and soy sauce with a slight heat from chili flakes.

I picked up the sauce along with a 6-piece order of Chicken McNuggets for $3.59.

The sauce comes in a red cup with a shiny gold lid to match the red and gold of McDonald's.

Peeling back the lid released a notable vinegary smell. The sauce sported a reddish-brown translucent appearance flecked with the occasional red chili flake.

It's not mentioned in the description but WcDonald's Sauce was quite sweet and packed more than a "slight heat." It offered a slightly caramelly, sticky sweetness to go with a strong punch of ginger, a tangy dose of vinegar, and a light touch of soy sauce. As far as spicy heat goes, it quickly developed a moderate heat that didn't really build up much and stuck around for a decent amount of time.

Overall, McDonald's Savory Chili WcDonald's Sauce turned out pretty well in my book. It offered a good amount of heat and a balanced combination of some rather strong flavors. If you're comparing WcDonald's to McDonald's previous Sweet Chili sauce, WcDonald's Sauce is a little less sweet, a good deal more gingery, and less funky. I would put the heat level down as roughly the same.
