Frozen Friday: Stouffer's - Fried Chicken

Stouffer's Fried Chicken is actually a boneless white meat chicken piece that's been seasoned, breaded, and fried. It's served with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy.

An 8.875-ounce box retails for $4.19 at one of my local supermarkets.

Because the chicken and the mashed potatoes are in a single compartment, the chicken never quite develops a crispy coat. It was pretty soft all around. The flavor was good and the chicken was tender and moist though. Still, the whole point of fried chicken is to have that crunchy outer layer. I'm pretty sure you could get it somewhat crisp, if removed it and microwaved it on a plate instead of in the tray.

The mashed potatoes were whipped with an even measure of butter and creaminess. Stouffer's has been doing microwavable mashed potatoes for a long time and it shows. It's pretty good and super convenient. It tastes better than the instant flakes.

Overall, I've had better, crispier, frozen breaded chicken than Stouffer's Fried Chicken, but the mashed potatoes are good!
