Review: Popeyes - Red Beans and Rice

Individual-sized Popeyes Red Beans and Rice.
Popeyes' Red Beans and Rice is a side dish that harkens to the chain's southern roots and features seasoned rice with red beans.

A individual portion goes for $1.99 in my area.

I can't speak to the authenticity of the dish as red beans and rice isn't a common dish here in California and I've never had it anywhere else. I can say that Popeyes' version is pretty good though.

The seasoned rice tastes like it was cooked in chicken broth, which is pretty nice if you've never tried it.

The beans were earthy, like a bean stew with a meaty smokiness to it that I would guess came from either smoked sausage or ham.

A spoonful of Popeyes Red Beans and Rice.

The overall effect makes for a tasty side dish that is altogether familiar but different.

  1. The only reason I ever go to Popeyes is to get the side orders of beans and rice. Their spicy chicken is really tatsy as well, but you have to get the beans and rice to complete the experience.
