Review: Wendy's - Mornin' Melt Panini

Wendy's Mornin' Melt Panini is part of their ongoing breakfast test and comes with natural Asiago and Cheddar cheeses, fresh-cracked eggs seasoned with salt and pepper, your choice of grilled all-natural sausage or applewood-smoked bacon and a tomato slice pressed between two slices of buttered sourdough bread brushed.

I picked up the Mornin' Melt Panini with Bacon and it was the priciest sandwich on the breakfast menu at $2.99.

The first thing I noticed about the Mornin' Melt Panini was the immaculate job that was done in toasting/pressing the sourdough. I could feel every crunchy groove and the underlying sourdough crust remained satisfying soft and chewy. It's easily the best toasting I've ever encountered at a fast food chain.

Inside, the bacon was less than crunchy from the panini press. I think the only solution to keeping the crunch would be to press the sandwich and then add the bacon after. Beyond the texture, the bacon was quite flavorful and smoky.

The lone tomato slice was ripe and gave a good accounting for itself with a substantial sour bite that worked rather well. I think the sourness was more from the circumstance of the tomato being ripe rather than any design on Wendy's part though. The coverage could have been a little better.

The cheeses were real (as opposed to the pasteurized processed stuff at most fast food chains) and added a light bit of creamy flavor. They could have been sharper in taste, but I think that's more my preference rather than the general opinion (I like my cheddar sharp!).

The egg was nicely cooked and seasoned. It fit in the sandwich very well.

Overall, Wendy's Morning' Melt Panini is a top notch fast food breakfast sandwich that I hope to see at all Wendy's restaurants someday. Good stuff!

  1. I'm so jealous...I stopped eating ff breakfast anywhere else but from subway ever since they started offering it. I might switch back to wendy's if mine served it because of this sandwich.
