Review: Carl's Jr. - Strawberry Biscuit

The Carl's Jr. Strawberry Biscuit is one of the recent menu additions brought about by introduction of sister chain Hardee's Made from Scratch Biscuits which has rolled out in the southern California market.

The biscuit is a sizable biscuit (it actually weighs more than a Sausage Biscuit at McDonald's) topped with warm strawberry jam and a squiggle of sugary glaze for 99 cents.

There aren't any big surprises with this one; it tastes much like you would expect--like a biscuit with strawberry jam and glaze on it. That being said, I really liked it.

It works out very well for when you're not in the mood for something savory in the morning. Kinda like when you want some jam and toast but fancier and saving you the trouble of kneading and rolling out some biscuits.

The biscuit itself is crusty, chewy, and fluffy inside; it adds a bit of a savory element to the dish. Everything was nice and warm. The strawberry jam is actually cored into the top of the biscuit a little bit. I'm glad it was a squiggle of glaze and not a full-on topping because it was just the right pitch of sweetness for me.

It's good stuff; a bit heartier fare and less sweet than, say, a Danish.
