Review: KFC - Chunky Chicken Pot Pie

KFC's Chunky Chicken Pot Pie is one of those items I've always wanted to try but always got sidetracked by other menu items and promotion.

Thankfully, KFC currently has a promotion where the pie is $3.99 and that's as good an excuse as any to finally get me one.

The pie comes in a foil tin filled with shredded KFC chicken (dark meat! mmm... or at least mixed dark and white), green peas, carrots, potatoes, in a home-style sauce covered with an over-sized flaky crust before baking.

In size, the pie is slightly smaller than a Marie Callender's frozen pot pie but bigger than similar stuff from Banquet and Swanson. In flavor, it offers a much more decadent experience than any of those.

The crust on my KFC Chunky Chicken Pot Pie was a little doughy in the center but still flaky, light, and more importantly, buttery. The richness starts there and it doesn't stop once you pierce the crust.

The filling was full of shredded chunks of KFC chicken, big cubes of potatoes, sizable disks of carrots, and plenty of peas. Apparently, "home-style" means "cream," because the sauce was creamy and thick as any pot pie or stew I've ever had and chicken-y to boot.

The overall effect is very tasty but there's a bit of guilty pleasure in eating one of these. It's that decadent. But... at least there are vegetables!
