Review: Krispy Kreme - Glazed Cherry Pie

Krispy Kreme's Glazed Cherry Pie is of the pocket pie variety with a sealed glazed crust and a cherry filling.

It retails for $1.09 according to the box but they don't sell these in my area; I picked this one up at the Krispy Kreme VIB Blogger Summit because it came in a box and they said I could have it.

I'm more familiar with Hostess brand pies of the same type which they do carry in the L.A. area though I haven't eaten on since I was a kid. Krispy Kreme's pie is pretty much the same deal although apparently is a bit cheaper at retail (my local supermarket has the Hostess version for $1.59 regular price).

These kinda pies are really more for their portability and convenience than anything. They come in single servings and are fairly clean to eat. You don't need a utensil and the box is microwavable in case you like your pie warm or hot. There's even directions on the box for heating (10 to 20 seconds).

The glaze is a bit unneccessary for me. The filling is already pretty sweet and, like Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed Donut, the glaze covers the entire surface of the pie. I'd prefer it without the glaze or maybe with a light drizzle of glaze. The crust isn't too dense, isn't flaky, and has a lot of give and is a little crumbly. I didn't really taste much of the crust over the glaze.

The filling carried a decent cherry taste and had bits of cherry for added texture and flavor. It had a sweet tartness and a slightly, thickened syrup consistency.

Microwaving the pie is a nice touch and while it's no substitute for a fresh pie, Krispy Kreme Glazed Cherry Pie is not a bad way to go for pie on the go.
