Review: Krispy Kreme - Honey Bun

Krispy Kreme's Honey Bun is another one of the packaged goodies I picked up from the Krispy Kreme Blogger Summit. It's somewhat like a cinnamon roll but more bread-like because it doesn't have as many swirls.

Like the rest of the packaged goods I picked up at the summit, they don't sell them in my neck of the woods, at least not that I've seen. I got it for free from the summit so I don't know how much they cost.

I'm not sure "honey bun" is an apt name for these things; I've tried other brands of "honey buns" before and none of them have had a distinct honey taste. They're more like a cinnamon roll; they contain a cinnamon swirl and are glazed.

You'll usually find these in convenience stores as they make for quick on-the-go snacking.

Out of the package, the roll was a bit on the firm side which, while par for the course, is not exactly desirable. Since it works (and is even recommended) for their donuts, I decided that 8 seconds in the microwave was in order.

Baked goods are always better warm but what was surprising was that microwaving gave Krispy Kreme's Honey Bun a taste and texture very reminiscent of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed with a hint of cinnamon. It had that same lightness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Very nice!

I don't eat honey buns often (this was actually the first I've had in years) but microwaving them is going to have to be standard when I do.
