Frozen Friday: Marie Callender's - Apple Pie

A relatively new frozen dessert from Marie Callender's, the two-serving Apple Pie is roughly the size of Marie's frozen pot pies but with a different crust and, more importantly, a different filling.

I picked a 10-ounce pie on sale for $1.99 (the regular price was $2.69).

Having tried Banquet's budget version of a small pie before, I really did not have high hopes for Marie's version (Both the Banquet and Marie Callender's frozen food brands are owned or licensed by ConAgra). I shouldn't have worried, this pie was good!
The crust here was not the standard apple pie crust; it was buttery, crumbly, and topped with cinnamon sugar. It reminded me a little of a sugar cookie really. Some of it stuck to the crisping material but was no worse for the wear beyond aesthetics. The top crust was a little thin though.

Like a lot of fillings you heat up in the microwave, the apples inside were molten. Please be sure to let the pie sit for a bit and/or vent the top crust or risk a nice, even tongue burn.
The apple filling carried a nice tart apple sweetness with a slight note of cinnamon. It paired well with the crust and had a good consistency; not too liquid or syrupy.

Let's face it, when you buy or make a baked pie, you're going to have enough for at least four people. For when you just want a serving or two of good apple pie and no leftovers to deal with, Marie Callender's Apple is the cure for what ails ya.

  1. Thin-challenged folks  tend to omit yummy stuff from their diets to escape being excessively lard-laden.

And even if a yummylicious concoction wea consumed vanilla or whatever preferred ice cream flavor was used would not be tossed atop the warm yummyness.

    Nor whip cream.

Some weirdos put a slice of cheese on top but it is best to avoid those weirdos.

  2. I just had one of these, and there was very little apple filling in it. You can't really taste anything but the crust.

  3. 6 slices of apple in the whole pie. Great crust, but not enough apple to call this an apple pie.
