News: McDonald's McRib Makes Its Annual Return

The McRib is back at McDonald's. The popular limited-time item features a formed ground pork patty (shaped to vaguely resemble a mini rack of ribs) slathered in barbecue sauce and complemented by slivered onions and pickles on a long cornmeal-dusted roll.

It's selling for $3.19 in the Los Angeles area (may vary).

Select markets are offering a deal where you can get a second McRib for an additional $1 when you purchase a McRib Extra Value Meal (which is $5.29 at my local McDonald's).

The price has gone up a little bit since three years ago when I first tried the McRib. It was only $2.69 back then.

You can expect the McRib to stick around until the end of the year.

Update: 11/20/13: It's not a nationwide launch this year (but appears to be available in most markets). It's up to franchisees to choose whether or not they're selling it.

  1. I have a local McD's that has Buy One Get One Free Coupons and you can use them on anything (even Dollar menu). I got two Bacon McDoubles last week and while I know their profit margin is higher with the consumer paying a full buck more (oddly enough, the regular McDouble was still a buck) I loved what the bacon added. Definetly adds that smokey flavor McD's burgers lack. I can't wait to try out some of the other newer items. Overall, I think this is a good move by McDonald's.
They are also testing a Jalapeno Kicker in Maryland/DC with pickled onions, crispy onions, and cream cheese on burgers and chicken.

  2. Yeah, it would be nice to find the occasional char on a McDonald's patty for smokiness.

I worry that they might have too many menu items and that it'll lead to slower prep times and more mistakes.

I'll have to look into the Jalapeno Kicker. Thanks!

  3. I love the Dollar Menu & More menu! I think the BBQ Ranch and Bacon Buffalo Ranch McChicken as well as the Bacon McDouble are steals and this was an awesome move by McD's on their part!

  4. Would be interested if these items were added here in NYC. But the Dollar Menu is near non-existent here.

  6. I went to McD today, they had no idea about it, nor was it on the menu. I had to say "BBQ Ranch Burger on the Dollar Menu" and they scrolled on the menu in the register and found it and had to tell the preparer what it needed. Forgot to ask for the Buffalo Ranch McChicken. It was pretty good for what it was, a shame they weren't ready for it a day after it released (and they had all the ingredients)
