Review: Popeyes - Cajun Sparkle Boneless Wings and Tots

Popeyes' Cajun Sparkle Boneless Wings and Tots feature seven marinated, battered, and deep-fried chicken breast pieces and some tater tots dusted with Popeyes' Cajun Sparkle seasoning.

An order also includes a biscuit and cost me $6.

My particular batch of boneless wings were subpar unless you prefer crispy breading over actual chicken. The pieces were generally lacking in the chicken department and one piece was almost entirely just crispy, flaky breading (the crispiness and flakiness were nice but it was also chewy in the middle, which was not so nice). The chicken that was there was a little dry. Beyond that, the boneless wings were pretty spicy and had a nice flavor to them.

The Cajun Sparkle seasoning is mostly black peppery (enough for a little bit of heat) and salty with a bit of garlic to it. It made for an enjoyable flavor although the extra salt seemed unnecessary. The seasoning went better with the tots than the chicken as the spiciness of the boneless wings seemed to negate some of the Cajun Sparkle. You can also ask for packets of the seasoning if it's to your liking.

The tots turned out crispy on the exterior and moist on the inside. They're fairly standard but are not something that Popeyes normally carries.

There was supposed to be Cajun Sparkle Ranch for dipping and the cashier assured me that it was in the bag when I asked but it was not, so I'll leave it at that.

Overall, Popeyes' Cajun Sparkle Boneless Wings and Tots were a mixed bag for me. I liked the seasoning and the tots but felt the chain's mild fried chicken would have gone better with the Cajun Sparkle.
