Review: Marie Callender's Delights - Baked Country Chicken with Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Marie Callender's Delights' Baked Country Chicken with Roasted Sweet Potatoes features a white meat chicken patty in a white wine caramelized onion sauce with roasted sweet potatoes and leafy greens.

A 10-oz box was $2.49 on sale.

The chicken patty was interesting in that they seemed to be trying to make it feel like an actual chicken breast filet but went too far so that it was actually more resilient and chewy than a chicken breast should be but still had the smooth consistency of ground chicken. Usually when I eat a frozen dinner, I can get away with using a fork to cut through the meat but I had to go full-on knife and fork for this one. Despite the texture, the chicken was still moist.

The potatoes were soft and almost mushy and added a light sweetness.

The greens, a mix of kale, chard, and spinach, were cooked through and contributed a bit of bitterness.

The sauce brushed everything with an enjoyable savory and herb-y quality. It was slightly thickened and clung well enough to the other components.

Overall, I liked Marie Callender's Delights' Baked Country Chicken with Roasted Sweet Potatoes a good deal. Everything was tasty and turned out pretty well. While the chicken patty was a bit weird, it wasn't bad. Additionally, it didn't feel like they were trying to make a healthier version of a similar dish.
