Frozen Friday: Lean Cuisine - Sweet & Sour Chicken

Lean Cuisine's Sweet & Sour Chicken features chicken tenderloins and veggies in a sweet and sour sauce served over rice.

A 10-ounce box displays 300 calories, 3 grams of fat, and 2g of fiber and sells for $3.29 at my local Alberston's supermarket.

The sauce for Lean Cuisine's Sweet & Sour Chicken is mainly a mix of tomatoes and pineapples for flavor and is some potent stuff. It's a little bit too sour and sweet for my liking and there's not enough rich to cut into the flavor.

The rice turns out pretty well from the microwave, but with all the sauce from the chicken, it loses its way in the mix.

The vegetables here are carrots, green peppers, and red peppers. There are some pineapple piece thrown in to provide additional sweet and sour notes. They turned out a bit on the soft side and largely went unnoticed in my mouth.

The chicken was tender but, like everything else in the meal, was overshadowed by the sauce.

I don't think I'd get this again. The sweet and sour sauce is pretty tangy and sour; it covered up most of the other ingredients in the dish so that I basically got overly sweet and sour in a lot of different textures. You'd have to like a strong, fruity sweet and sour sauce to want to try this one.
