Like the biscuits, the buns are baked daily in-house at each test location. The buns come standard on the Six Dollar Burger and Thickburgers, but are also available on regular Carl's Jr./Hardee's burgers for a 30-cent upcharge.
I contacted Carl's Jr. for comment, but was told that they don't comment on test items as a matter of company policy.
If successful, the buns would give the sister chains a leg up over their competition as no other major fast food chain has offered buns baked fresh in-house before. Baking your own buns has generally been more the domain of fast casual and sit-down restaurants, so it could be a big thing for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.
