The dish features the combination of Popeye's regular menu Butterfly Shrimp with the seasoning of Zatarain's and a distinctive cornmeal breading.
As is usual for limited-time items, Popeyes is offering Zatarain's Butterfly Shrimp in a combo featuring 8 shrimp, Cajun fries (or a side of your choice), a biscuit, and Lemon Garlic Dipping Sauce for $4.99.
The seafood play is pretty standard for Popeyes and it works well given their Louisiana roots. Thus far, they've faced very little competitors in the seafood area nationally; neither KFC nor Church's regularly offers any seafood at all. The closest major competitor for Popeyes is probably Long John Silver's, which is more of a dedicated seafood fast food chain rather than a fast food chain that also serves seafood.
These are so good. The seasoning is very flavorful and the pieces are huge. It sucks that Popeyes won't let you order them a la carte..it's always in a combo.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned LJSilvers. I know this is off-topic, but Captain D's is the superior fast-food seafood restaurant. Their flavor and variety is so much better. Too bad they aren't as well known as Long John Sicklys.
Shrimp again? It feels like it's been too long since the crawfish have cycled back in to their menu to me.
