Review: Arby's - Apple Turnover

Arby's Apple Turnover is a flaked baked pastry with a sweet apple filling and a drizzle of sweet icing.

It's a value menu item at $1 a piece.

Of all the fast food restaurants I've visited, Arby's is the only one that offers flaky turnovers.

It's not as moist or buttery as a croissant, but is crispy and flaky and strikes a fair balance between crust and filling. On this particular visit the crust was super crispy at the surface but a little dry as well. It might have been sitting under the heat lamps for too long.

The icing adds a extra dose of sweetness and is similar to what you'd find on a donut.

The apple filling is fairly standard and similar to what you'd find at the supermarket bakery or a donut shop. It's sweet and tangy with a touch of cinnamon and bits of apples.

Overall, Arby's Turnover is probably most notable in that they actually offer one and occasionally I'll want one. It's not spectacular, but it's tasty enough while not costing much. It's also fresher and crispier than what I tend to find in the bakery department of my local supermarkets.
