Review: McDonald's - Crispy Southwest Chicken McWrap

McDonald's Crispy Southwest Chicken McWrap features slices of crispy chicken (also available with grilled chicken) glazed with a cilantro lime sauce, chili-lime tortilla strips, spring greens, two half slices of tomato, shredded cheddar jack cheese, and a spicy habanero ranch sauce wrapped up in a  flour tortilla.

I picked up a crispy chicken version for $3.99.

From the looks and taste of it, the cilantro lime sauce was conspicuously missing from my Southwest McWrap, but that did mean that the chicken (which is the same filets you get on their premium chicken sandwiches) was pretty crispy with a nice, seasoned flavor.

For the most part, the Southwest Chicken McWrap is more or less like the other McWraps. The lettuce-spring greens blend was decent and the tomatoes were a little soft. It offers a little more greens than you'd get in a burger but less than a salad. The cheese was typical for fast food and quite mild.

The key differences are the tortilla strips and the spicy habanero ranch sauce (well, and the cilantro lime sauce that was missing).

The tortilla strips are described as chili-lime but it didn't really stand out. They added a nice crunch to go with the crispy chicken though. The lower temperature of a McWrap over something warmer like a burrito kept the chips from getting soggy. There was also a nice separation between the strips and the sauce, which also helped.

Beside the chicken, the sauce provides a bulk of the wrap's flavor. The ranch taste is fairly mild compared to McDonald's regular ranch sauce. It's the same sauce as in the Bacon Haberno Ranch Quarter Pounder, which means it's by far the spiciest sauce that McDonald's currently offers and got my nose running pretty good.
Overall, the Crispy Southwest Chicken McWrap was pretty enjoyable between the chicken, greens, and habernero ranch sauce. It would have been more interesting if they also included the corn and black beans from the Southwest Salad, but I guess those things would be prone to fall out and hinder the whole "on-the-go" eating angle.

  1. I love this! I love how spicy the habanero sauce is and I enjoy eating it with either crispy or grilled chicken. I love the burning feeling my mouth has after consuming one of these! The overall wrap is very tasty and leaves me wanting more.
