Review: Jack in the Box - Croissant Donut

Jack in the Box's Croissant Donut features flaky, croissant dough shaped like a donut, fried up and dusted with cinnamon sugar.

I bought one for 99 cents (you can also get 3 for $2.19).

The Croissant Donut was pretty fresh and warm. They spooned the cinnamon sugar into the bag and gave it a good shaking when I ordered it. It was coated pretty well.

There was a thin, crispy, flaky crust to the mini donut that gave way to a wonderfully super soft, melt-in-your-mouth crumb. The inside didn't really have the separate, buttery layers of a croissant, but it was softer than any donut or 'cronut' that I've had and was really enjoyable in its own right.

The cinnamon sugar came in moderation and wasn't too heavy. If you prefer powdered sugar (or something else), I'd try asking for one plain and sprinkling some on at home.

Overall, Jack in the Box's Croissant Donut was really good. I'd definitely get it again. I've had my fair share of cronuts/croissant donuts and they often felt like donut-shaped croissants or filled pastries. This felt more like an actual hybrid croissant-donut (plus it's not going to cost me $4 or $5).
