Review: Taco Bell - Spicy Potato Taco

Taco Bell's new Spicy Potato Soft Taco features crispy potato bites, shredded lettuce, chipotle sauce, and shredded cheddar cheese in a warm flour tortilla for $1.

It's pretty much a replacement for the Crispy Potato Soft Taco, but with a spicy chipotle sauce rather than pepper jack sauce.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed that I got the taco to stand up long enough to take a picture with it upright, but I digress...

I'd be lying if I didn't miss the meat here. The potatoes carry a good amount of flavor from the seasoning, but they're not really crunchy and they're still a starch like rice. I feel like it'd be better to just skip the flour tortilla and just serve the potatoes in a small bowl with the other ingredients on top. I guess that's not as easy to eat on the go though.

The lettuce was relatively fresh and crispy and the cheese was moist, but they go better with seasoned beef.

What makes the taco come together is really the sauce, which was equal parts spicy and smoky. Somehow it feel spicier than the other items I've had with Taco Bell's chipotle sauce in it. I think it might just be the quantity and they must put more in the taco than in other items.

Overall, Taco Bell's Spicy Potato Soft Taco might be nice if you're a vegetarian and like a soft taco with a good kick of heat (or wished for a spicy version of the old potato taco), but it just made me pine for some seasoned beef.
