Frozen Friday: Safeway Select - BBQ Pulled Pork

Safeway Select's Pulled Pork in BBQ Sauce frozen meal features shredded pork in a sweet barbecue sauce served with a side of macaroni and cheese.

An 8-ounce box was $1.99.

The pork turned out pretty nicely; it was juicy and tender although not really smoky like actual pulled pork. The sauce was maybe just a tad too sweet and though it's not mentioned on the packaging, it packed a sizable spicy kick that some might not expect (especially from a store brand).

The bulk of the meal is the macaroni and cheese, which stayed pretty traditional with a creamy albeit generically cheese taste that was still pretty nice. It was pretty thick and had a good consistency as well.

Overall, the mac and cheese and pork were pretty good but the combination of the two is too salty; there needs to be a blander starch here as I found myself wishing for some Wonder bread. As it stands, Safeway Select's Pulled Pork in BBQ Sauce was more like two good entrees than an entree and side.
