News: Burger King Testing Breakfast Burritos

One of my readers, Jack, unearthed this little nugget: Burger King is testing Breakfast Burritos out in Syracuse. There's a value-priced Sausage Burrito for $1 and a bigger Southwest Burrito for $2.49.

In addition to tipping me off to the new burritos, Jack also compared them to a McDonald's breakfast burrito complete with photos and comments which you can check out after the jump.

The Sausage Burrito comes with egg, sausage, American cheese, and peppers (compared to McDonald's Sausage Burrito which contains scrambled eggs, American cheese, onions, sausage and peppers) while the Southwest Burrito features egg, sausage, American cheese, salsa, onions, and hash browns (which were conspicuously missing from Jack''s burrito).

For size comparison, Jack took this shot:
McDonald's Sausage Burrito is on the left, the Burger King Sausage Burrito in the  middle, and Southwestern Burrito on the right.

Insofar as prices, Jack paid $3.89 for Burger King's two Sausage Burrito combo, $3.59 for the Southwestern Burrito Combo, and $5.38 for McDonald's similar two Sausage Burrito combo.

Just by price, McDonald's combo seems to cost a fair bit more than a similar combo at Burger King. Jack preferred the Burger King two Sausage Burrito combo based on the price difference and felt that the Burger King burritos were "a little bigger than the McD's ones" although he gave the nod to McDonald's in the hash browns department.

In terms of how the burritos tasted, however, Jack stated that he had no preference of any one over the others, making this one a bit of a wash.

  1. Tried the SW Burrito here in NJ....actually pretty good!  Wish they used a shredded jack or cheddar cheese instead of a slice of American though.  It makes me long for my McD's McSkillet Burrito though....I *loved* it, and they took it off the menu here  :(

  2. I wonder what the "buzz" is in BK corporate when the word was made public that Wendy's become the Avis of the fast-grub world.

Oh. Kids, for years Avis used the "We try harder, we're #2" buzz term in advertising due to Hertz being number 1 in many (all ?) areas where numbers could be used to compare the two firms.

It will be interesting to observe BK attempts to regain their number 2 position in the fast food world.

And, some day, since things do change, I expect MacD to some day be overtaken by a competitor, though it may take years ot some momentous unforeseen event that drives people away in droves.

  3. I would love to try BK's new breakfast burritos.  But as with McDonald's' burritos I can do without the peppers, though.  But the ones in the pics above look tasty.  I hope they taste as good as they look.

Trying this resulted in massive indigestion, diarrhea, and bloody stool. Thumbs up to fast food!

  5. I don't know, McDonald's has such an advantage with the real estate and monopoly presence they have in so many areas. As long as they stay competitive with their dollar menu, and keep their favorite items like McNuggets and fries up to par... I see them being like WalMart and doing well for a long time.

  6. One time this happened to me with Burger King too. I think some of their franchises lack quality control.

Usually a couple antacids is plenty to deal with fast food for me though, so thumbs up indeed!
