Frozen Friday: Banquet - Cheeseburger Stuffed Breadsticks

Banquet's Cheeseburger Stuffed Breadsticks meal is a new addition to the budget-minded line of frozen dinners. Each comes with two breadsticks stuffed with hamburger and cheese with sauce and a side of fries.

I bought a 4.9-ounce box for 88 cents.

It's odd to me that they offer a cheeseburger breadstick meal and not an actual cheeseburger, but I guess the boxes are all the same dimensions and might be too narrow to fit a burger.

I half-cooked this in the microwave and then heated it in the toaster oven for 5 minutes in hopes of some slightly crispy French fries and crust but it didn't work. A longer time might do it.

The dough for the breadstick is thick and a bit gummy. Not undercooked but gummy and soft. I managed to brown it a little but it wasn't crisp at all.

The filling is interesting: mostly cheese but with definite notes of ketchup and mustard. There were some bits of ground beef thrown in but I can't say they added much. The ketchup and mustard definitely give it a cheeseburger-type feel though.

The French fries were also unfortunately (but expectedly) soft. There's a decent potato flavor and just a bit of salt.

Overall, Banquet's Cheeseburger Stuffed Breadsticks frozen meal was fairly lackluster but cheap. You might try it for the novelty or if you really want cheeseburger flavor for 88 cents.

  1. Banquet's come up with some odd choices, but this one's definitely up there. It would be an easy pass for me. I don't mind a chicken tender dinner with the mac n' cheese and brownie once in a great while though. I think their chicken pot pies are serviceable for something under a dollar too.. gosh I hope I don't get the Claim Jumper fans going by simply mentioning pot pies, guess we'll see haha :P

  3. I had the pizza stick version of these a while back, and they were awful. BUT I like their pot pies (including the new breakfast ones) which are a bargain, even if they are a killer nutrition-wise.

  4. The other day I cooked a Banquet chicken nuggets and fries meal in the oven for the whole recommended time (30? 40? minutes). The fries were still as soft, floppy, and pale as if I had microwaved them. Same thing for the nuggets, really.

  5. I've NEVER NEVER NEVER had a crinkle cut fry that was good.
