Frozen Friday: Healthy Choice - Chicken Romano Fresca

Healthy Choice's Chicken Romano Fresca frozen meal features 8-ounces and 230 calories of chicken tenderloins, whole grain pasta, broccoli, and red peppers in a romano cheese and butter glaze.

My local supermarket carries these for $2.99 but I bought this for $2 on sale.

I like these because you just thrown them in the microwave for like 4 minutes and it's done. There's nothing to stir, nothing to rotate.

The whole grain pasta used in the Chicken Romano Fresca is similar to lasagna pasta but in smaller pieces. I'm sure there's a name for it, but I don't know it. It was tender, but not soggy and supplied a smooth texture to the meal.

I think you can tell from the pictures, but there's really not much in the way of sauce. I actually like it that way as I tend to find similar products from Healthy Choice to be overly sauced. I really didn't get any romano cheesiness though. Just a lightly seasoned flavor that allowed the chicken and veggies to really shine.

The chicken was just a little dry, but otherwise good.

The vegetables were slightly overcooked, but the full flavor was there and I enjoyed it.

I liked Healthy Choice's Chicken Romano Fresca quite a bit. Even though I felt it was missing the "Romano" bit, the vegetables and chicken were in full display. If you like strong flavors, you might find yourself disappointed, but otherwise it's definitely worth a go.
