Review: McDonald's - S'mores Pie

McDonald's S'mores Pie takes the same dual filling approach as the Strawberry and Creme Pie, but the fillings this time around are marshmallows and chocolate with a graham cracker crust.

My local McDonald's has the S'mores Pies going for 89 cents.

The graham cracker crust has a little bit of a sugary dusting at the edges and exhibits a decent graham cracker crunch. It's lightly sweetened.

The filling has whipped cream-like consistency, but heavier and more substantial. It's gooey. The chocolate is flavored a bit darker than your standard Hershey's milk chocolate bar, but I wouldn't say the pie suffers for it. It has a bit of a dark chocolate overtone and a pleasant chocolaty flavor. That being said, I'm not sure I've ever seen chocolate anything with the same texture.

Marshmallow is mostly a texture food and it does its job here while contrasting the stronger taste of the chocolate. Both the chocolate and the marshmallow fillings are solid enough that they won't fall out of the pie; it makes it quite suited for eating on the go.

Overall, McDonald's S'mores Pie was pretty tasty. Like the dessert it's based on, it's a enjoyable blend of textures and flavors.

The Sister didn't care for it though; she said she didn't like the flavor. But she didn't like the Strawberry and Creme Pie either.

  1. I've had my eyes set on that pie ever since you mentioned it was coming out for the summer. Hopefully they'll bring it down to Mexico as well. Great review, keep up the good work!

  2. I had one a couple days ago and it was a wonderful experience!  The graham crust and the chocolate and marshmellow cream made it taste like a real s'more's and it's worth more than the 89 cents they charge for it.  Like the McRib they need to keep it on the menu permanently.

  3. Was rather pleasantly surprised with this one. I forgot they don't sell their pies 2 for 1$ anymore, but by the time that I did it was too late.

  4.  Stop using the word note in your reviews

  5. You should use the thesaurus more often.
    A hint of dark chocolate
    A touch of dark chocolate
    subtle dark chocolate flavor
Your reviews get boring to read when you keep using the same words. I'm pretty sure you used "note" like more than 5 times already. Agh!

  6. Haha, yeah. I asked before I ordered. They said they only have the 2 for $1 for the apple pies.

  7. I think they've found that it drives more traffic to do limited time offers, so they're current plan is to run a lot of them.

  9. I thought they were a little disappointing.  The strawberry ones were much better!

  10. Just my opinion, but that's pretty critical... it's a fast food blog, not an attempt at traditional literature.

  11. I like giving "likes" and I would like for you to like my post about liking likes.

Will my desire be likely to happen?

  12. This was a let down, and pretty expensive at .89 cents for a small pie.

  16. I'm sure they will.

I wish they would keep the s'mores pie as a permanent menu item though. Or at least bring it back on a seasonal basis.

I don't see why McDonald's has to replace the cherry pie with whichever seasonal flavors they bring in; there's no reason why they can't offer three choices instead of two when they have limited-time or seasonal pie varieties.
