Review: Burger King - Bacon Sundae

Burger King's Bacon Sundae features vanilla soft serve swirled with chocolate fudge and caramel syrup and topped with pieces of bacon and then, for good measure, garnished with half strip of thick-cut bacon.

It'll cost $2.49 (may vary) for your very own.

I may have actually got more bacon than is shown in the promo photos. At the very least, my crumbled bits of bacon were bigger. The sundae is a pretty good size and is somewhat larger than Burger King's regular sundaes. It comes in the same cup as the Oreo Sundae.

Now I love bacon, but the idea of a bacon sundae doesn't exactly appeal to me beyond, perhaps, a mild curiosity. Still, I was hoping as I spooned the soft serve, caramel, chocolate, and bacon into my mouth that they would explode into a synergistic flavor volcano, but no, it was not to be, it ended up just tasting a little weird with cold sweetness to start, tailing off into a strong salt finish; a little bit like disappointment.

The bacon was nicely crisp, but lacking in that bacon smokiness and mostly just provided some crunchy saltiness. The salty bite just didn't mesh with the cool vanilla soft serve nor the chocolaty and caramel syrups.

I would have rather just have had the soft serve with chocolate and caramel. I actually enjoyed the sundae except for the bacon. I think the bacon would have been better suited for a crunchy fine crumble rather than for full on salty bacon flavor.
