Review: Krispy Kreme - Key Lime Kreme Pie Donut

Krispy Kreme's Key Lime Kreme Pie Donut is a seasonal Fruit Stand Flavor donut. It consists of a yeast donut that is filled with a blend of key lime and Kreme filling before being topped with white icing and graham cracker crumbles.

I picked up it along with an assortment of other donuts for $9.49.

This donut is a bit of a change-up from the standard lemon-filled donut except with a creamier filling. To make it a key lime pie donut, they put in the key lime mixed with Kreme to give you the pie filling and sprinkle graham crackers for the crust.

The result is a reasonably tart and sweet donut. I'm not a sugar fiend so the white icing makes it a little too sweet for me, but the yeast donut gives that trademark Krispy Kreme fluffy texture. And, the key lime Kreme filling lends that lime tartness with a bit of creaminess.

I'd probably like it better with just a standard glaze, but of the two cirtrus donuts Krispy Kreme is putting out this summer, this one is less sweet of the two and therefore my pick... unless you give me a lemon cake donut with no glaze/icing.
