News: McDonald's - New McCafe Frappé Chocolate Chip for a Limited Time

I don't know why McDonald's calls it the Frappé Chocolate Chip and not the Chocolate Chip Frappé, but it's at participating McDonald's restaurants for a limited-time.

It offers the flavor of mocha, caramel, and coffee plus chocolate chips blended with ice. To finish, there's whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate and, for good measure, a drizzle of caramel as well. So it's basically a Caramel Mocha Frappé (not on the menu) with the most distinguishing feature being the little bits of chocolate chips as you sip.

My local McDonald's has them at $2.29 for a small (12 oz), $2.79 for a medium (16 oz), and $3.29 for a large (22 oz).

  1. I tried this yesterday and liked it.  I got mine without the whipped cream (no, I'm not delusional enough to think that makes it healthy; I just don't like whipped cream).  The chocolate and coffee flavors come through much more strongly than the caramel, which I thought was a good thing since McDonald's caramel frappes have a strange chemical aftertaste that I find overpowering.

The chocolate chip frappe is probably my favorite of the three McDonald's frappes, although I doubt I would buy it again anytime soon just because I'm more likely to go for a shake or a smoothie when it comes to drinks at McDonald's.  However, I think that if you liked iced coffee drinks, you will definitely like this.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is that the chocolate chip pieces tend to get stuck in the straw.

  2. At 630 calories for a medium, I'll pass. That's more calories than my entire dinner last night

  3. Yeah, it's going to run around that much or more (for ice cream shakes) for similar drinks of the same size.

  4. Not sure if your medium size should be 16 FL oz ?? Wow! To me that should be a large!!!! Mmmm... And what is the amount of caffeine in your chocolate chip frappe 16 FL oz?? Would be great if you could actually have ALL the information on the nutritional information online?? I mean its part of the drink?? So why not there??

  5. 16-ounce is pretty much a standard "medium" for coffee in the U.S. A Starbucks Grande-sized drink is 16-ounces as well. McDonald's doesn't list the caffeine info, but I would guess it's around 90 mg.
