Frozen Friday: Lean Cuisine - Lasagna with Meat Sauce

Lean Cuisine's Lasagna with Meat Sauce features layered pasta with seasoned meat, tomato, and reduced fat mozzarella cheese.

A 10.5-ounce package is normally about $3.50, or $2 to $2.50 on sale.

This one ends up being very basic and plain, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The pasta cooks a little soft but holds on to the sauce pretty well and there's a good amount of lightly-seasoned ground meat.

The sauce is just mostly plain tomato and not much in the way of seasoning, which is fine but it could use an extra note or two of spice or herbs. I know it's supposed to be simple, but some diced onions and peppers might be nice.

The weakest part of the meal is the cheese. It's a flavorless mozzarella that adds a bit of stretchy texture, but that's it. It might defeat the purpose of eating a Lean Cuisine, but a couple of sprinkles of parmesan would go a long way here.

Overall, Lean Cuisine's Lasagna with Meat Sauce ends up being a very generic lasagna with no real high points, but no unsavory low points either. In the world of frozen food, it's unexciting but it does the job.
