Review: Krispy Kreme - Caramel Pretzel Donut

Krispy Kreme's Caramel Pretzel Donut is a chocolate-Kreme-filled-yeast donut with caramel icing, salted pretzels, and a caramel drizzle.

The nearest Krispy Kreme sells them for $1.19 each.

With a double dose of caramel, the donut has a lot of sugary sweetness going on, but the slightly-stale-but-still-crunchy crushed pieces of pretzels counterbalance it with salt. The salt also helps to highlight the caramel flavor, which isn't particularly strong or rich. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill caramel flavor.

The yeast donut was pretty fresh with a satisfyingly soft crumb and just a very thin layer of slightly crispy crust.

Inside, the chocolate Kreme was my favorite part with a mellow but decent chocolate flavor and an airy creaminess. Basically it's like chocolate whipped topping but slightly heavier, which is fine by me.
Overall, between the chocolate Kreme inside and the salty crunch of pretzels without, Krispy Kreme's Caramel Pretzel Donut was my favorite out of their current batch of limited-time, chocolate and caramel-flavored donuts.

Although I didn't have the two other new ones, the Caramel Pretzel one was really good!

  2. Yeah, the other two were a bit more like regular donut flavors. This was the most interesting of the bunch.
