Review: Pepperidge Farm - Buffalo Wing Goldfish Puffs

Pepperidge Farm's Goldfish Puffs are basically like goldfish-shaped Cheetos Cheese Puffs. They come in several flavors, but my local Target only had Buffalo Wing flavor so here we are (the other flavors are Mega Cheese and Cheddar & Bacon). They are also gluten-free.

A 7-ounce bag was $2.99.

Goldfish Puffs don't have quite the same texture as Cheetos Cheese Puffs. This is due, I think, to these being baked rather than fried. It doesn't have the same uniform lattice air bubbles of the Cheetos version and, as a result, feels slightly irregular and denser.

It doesn't have as much cheesy powder either. I feel like a Cheetos version of Buffalo Wing flavor would beat you over the head with flavor, while the Goldfish version takes a more measured approach that leaves you a sense of the corn meal in the puffs.

The powder exhibits the vinegary tang of Buffalo wings with just the barest tingle of spicy heat (the blink-and-you'll-miss-it variety of spiciness). The overall effect is pleasing and you can consider it Buffalo wing flavor for people who are more sensitive to heat.

Overall, Pepperidge Farm's Goldfish Puffs is a pretty good alternative to the more popular Cheetos Cheese Puffs for fans of Buffalo wing-flavored things, but who prefer a more moderate approach to flavor. Personally, the lighter flavor makes it really easy to eat a lot of them, which might be dangerous for some.

  1. Not sure they're exclusive to Target. Saw them at Walgreen's today.

  2. Okay, I looked into it and it looks like the bigger bags are exclusive to Target and smaller snack bags are being offered at Walgreen's. I'll update the review accordingly. Thanks!

  3. I saw them at Kroger in Virginia. The review was helpful though, I was on the fence about trying them.

  4. Hm. It said exclusive to Target in the weekly mailer, but I'm just going to assume it's widely available and edit the text accordingly..

I'm glad the review was helpful at least. Let me know what you think if you try them.
