News: Taco Bell Teases New Doritos Locos Taco Flavor

Taco Bell is coming out with a third variety of their Doritos Locos Tacos (following Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch) on Thursday, August 22 and are being rather coy on what the flavor will be (or at least be named) by teasing the release date with tweets including a link to this short Vine video.

The safe bet is that the new taco will be the Doritos Flamas-flavored taco tested earlier. However, a Taco Bell rep stated that "this #__DLT, contrary to speculation, may not what be what you’re expecting" and to "expect the unexpected." But, it's possible they may just be calling it by a different name.

They also tested a Fiery Chicken Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco previously this year as well, so that's also a possibility. That's not really a new flavor though and more of a variation on a current one.

Fortunately, I should have the opportunity to try out the new Doritos Loco Tacos sometime next week, so I'll let you guys know what I find.

The Doritos Locos Taco platform has been hugely successful for Taco Bell, with sales of the first two varieties already approaching 570 million tacos, so you can expect more new flavors in the future.

  1. I'll probably always be excited for a new DLT flavor, but I don't know if they can keep generating the same level of hype with each new flavor that comes out. Most of the hype for the original DLT probably came from the novelty of the product, and then the hype for the Cool Ranch probably came from that being the most popular flavor of Doritos (I'm guessing it is anyway, though if it's not it's probably right up there with Nacho Cheese).

Something like Flamas just doesn't seem like it would resonate in the same way as the previous ones. I'm sure it will probably still be good (I haven't even eaten the chip version of them, so this flavor will be completely new to me), but I can't imagine the same fervor surrounding its launch as the Cool Ranch had earlier this year. It'll be nice for them to keep adding new flavors for the variety, but I'm not positive they'll be surefire hits anymore.

  2. I basically agree, but whether they are big hits or not, it's always cool to get a little variety.. that's one of my favorite things about Taco Bell, they consistently release different things that are cheap. Much of it is very similar, but it's just fun to try different combinations. That being said, I think the original Doritos taco will probably always be my favorite, the Cool Ranch was okay but the original is just the right mix of flavors for me.

Nacho cheese DLT > all other DLT.
Ranch was OK at best. Not enough "Dorito dust".

  4. JESUS doritos, bring back habanero chips. Now make a DLT with them and replace the cheese with lava sauce. BAM I just made you millions.
