Review: Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy Cookies

Nabisco's Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies are your run-of-the-mill Chewy Chips Ahoy soft-baked chocolate chip cookies but with chunks of salted caramel thrown into the mix.

A 9.5-ounce bag was $2.99 on sale.

The salted caramel chunks aren't like full-on caramel. There isn't that smooth, gooey, chewy texture. Instead, the texture is more like a chocolate chip with a bit of the melt-in-your-mouth quality.

The chunks are very lightly salted in a blink-and-you-might-miss-it fashion. Mostly, they add a buttery caramel flavor similar to bulk caramel candy. It's not rich but it's familiar and tasty. It was just on the cusp of being too sweet for me.

Beyond the notable caramel flavor, the rest is the typical slightly-caramelized cookie taste and milk chocolate chips of the standard Chewy Chips Ahoy.

Overall, I felt the caramel chunks paired very well with the chocolate chips in Nabisco's Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies and didn't push too much sugar into the cookies.

  1. These look similar to an Indian dish called kachori. Not my favorite thing in the world, but I guess it would be something my grandparents would like to eat if we ever went to a Pizza Hut in India.
