Review: Krispy Kreme - Glazed Lemon Cake Donut with Cream Cheese Icing

The Glazed Lemon Cake Donut with Cream Cheese Icing is one of Krispy Kreme's new, seasonal Fruit Stand Flavors and consists of a glazed lemon cake donut topped with cream cheese icing and lemon cake crumbles.

They're a little over a dollar each at my "local" (25 miles away) Krispy Kreme, but I picked up an assorted dozen for $9.49. No sales tax because I got it "to go."

I'll preface this by saying, I'm not a huge fan of lemon cake; I like it fine, but I'm not bouncing off the walls about it. That being said, the lemon cake donut itself is really nice; it was moist, lightly sweetened with a good hit of lemon flavor.

I guess I don't have that big a sweet tooth because I just want to eat the lemon cake donut plain. The glaze and the cream cheese icing make it way too sweet for me. It feels like I'm getting my daily sugar allotment in one bite. The cream cheese adds to the tartness, but the lemon cake crumbles are largely there for texture. I think I would have enjoyed it if it was just glazed or iced but not both. It reminds me a bit of cupcakes, which I also tend to find too sweet when there's too much frosting.

As long you like your desserts really sweet, the Glazed Lemon Cake Donut with Cream Cheese Icing would probably satisfy your cravings for a lemony dessert this summer. If you're like me, you'll be thinking about scraping off all the icing and glaze and eating the donut plain.

  1. Sounded good... guess I'll just stick with whatever Dunkin may be offering of the lemon kind!

  3. I've never tried Starbucks Iced Lemon Pound cake, but it seems the donut would be sweeter.
