Review: Mauna Loa - Honey Roasted Macadamias

My brother recently came back from a trip to Hawaii and that meant macadamia nuts for me to eat!

Mauna Loa Honey Roasted Macadamias are roasted with Hawaiian honey and sugar.

A can of this size (4.5 ounces) is usually around $5 anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii where they grow lots and it's much cheaper.

Fun fact: Macadamia nuts are actually originally from Australia, but were brought to Hawaii for commercial growing back in the 1920s.

I would describe the taste as almost buttery. The texture-wise it's a little bit softer than other nuts. Compared to more common nuts, hey're high in fat and low in protein, but oh-so-good. The price means I really only eat them when someone comes back from Hawaii.

Mauna Loa's honey roasted version has a nice honeyed taste with a touch of salt. It's not overly sweet and makes for a tasty snack.

Even though I didn't pay for these, I eat them very slowly... like one or two nuts at a time. Gotta make the expensive nuts last!

  1. He should have gotten you the variety pack. It has Kona coffee glazed nuts and a sour cream and onion nut can.

  2. He did actually! I'll write about the other flavors as I slowly try them... unless someone else eats them all.

  3. Sometimes you feel like a nut.

    Sometimes you don't.
