News: Five New Flavors of Mikawaya Mochi Ice Cream Including Black Sesame

Mikawaya's Mochi Ice Cream line will soon be adding five new flavors: Black Sesame, Cookies & Cream, Matcha Green Tea, Mint Chip, and Plum Wine.

According to the company's president, Joel Friedman, "Cookies and Cream, and Mint Chip are two of the top six flavors worldwide. And given the truly authentic traditional Asian nature of Plum Wine, Matcha Green Tea and Black Sesame, we felt they were perfect additions to our lineup."

For those of you unfamiliar, mochi ice cream is a small scoop of ice cream surrounded by a skin of mochi, a rice cake made of pounded glutinous (sticky) rice with a chewy, stretchy soft texture. If they don't sell it in your area, you're most likely to have found it served as a dessert (that they probably bought from Mikawaya) at a local Japanese restaurant.

The new flavors will join Mikawaya's current line up, which includes Chocolate, Mango, Green Tea, Red Bean, Strawberry, Vanilla, and Kona Coffee, bringing the total available flavors up to 12.

Mikawaya Mochi Ice Cream can be found at select grocery stores. You can try locating them near you with the company's online mochi locator here. You can also buy them directly from the company's online store at $6 for a box of six (you might also try Trader Joe's where, at least in my area, they carry them at $3.99 a box).
